The Country House Garden

A new front garden for a historic farmhouse overlooking Lake Ontario. Plans were developed over the winter of 2014/15 and planting was completed in June of 2015.

The aesthetic of the new front garden aims to combine classic old-world garden plants like columbine, phlox, and lavender with Ontario native plants that are typical of the County landscape (wild bergamot, foxglove beardtongue and tufted hair grass) with some contemporary introductions and varieties. This hybrid of the old, the wild, and the new will create a richly layered planting of subtle, harmonious colours and a diversity of structure and textures. A beach stone walkway meanders through the garden, offering an intimate, immersive way to engage with the planting.
